Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar resigned from the post within an hour a day before the floor test in Maharashtra. Both took oath of office and secrecy at Raj Bhavan 4 days ago in the presence of Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari on Saturday morning. Fadnavis said in a press conference that I am going to resign the governor. He said that Maharashtra gave the biggest mandate to BJP. We got 70% seats and Shiv Sena got 40% seats.
Earlier on Tuesday morning, the Supreme Court gave its verdict in the Maharashtra case and ordered the MLAs to take oath till 5 pm on Wednesday and then conduct floor test. After this, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP President Amit Shah and Executive Chairman JP Nadda met. Within 2 hours of this meeting, Fadnavis and Ajit announced their resignation.
