On the 18th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 attack on the World Trade Center (WTC) in the US, the blast occurred in the early hours of Wednesday near the US embassy in Kabul. No organization has claimed responsibility for the blast yet. According to eyewitnesses, smoke was seen in place of the explosion. The news agency Xinhua reported that it was a rocket blast of sorts.
The incident came after US President Donald Trump’s decision to cancel peace talks with Taliban leaders. The talks were to take place at Camp David on 8 September. The decision was taken after the US President killed 12 people, including an American soldier, in the September 5 car bombing in Kabul.
